Fish Kulambu

Ingredients:

  • 2 Salmon fillets cut into 3 x 3 inch pieces
  • Tamarind juice 1 cup
  • 1 big onion ( finely chopped )
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 6-8 garlic gloves sliced
  • Seasonings mustard, cumin, urad dal and menthi seeds about a pinch of each
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp of methi seeds dry roasted add powdered.
For paste:
  • 2 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 2 tbsp methi seeds
  • 2 tbsp pepper corns
  • 3-4 red chillies
  • Saute the above in a tsp of oil till the coriander seeds start brown remove from heat and make into paste.

Preparation:
  1. Wash the fish, mix it with turmeric powder and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, Add the seasonings, mustard last, when the mustard starts to splutter add the onions.Fry it for 3 mins.
  3. Add the garlic pieces cook for 2 mins, Add tomatoes and cook till soft.
  4. Add a tsp of turmeric powder, add paste and tamarind juice.
  5. Add 1 cup water and let the mixture boil.
  6. Add salt and when it is fully cooked and add the fish pieces and cook for a few more mins.The fish pieces cook really quick so add them very end.
  7. Add the methi powder finally. Serve hot wit rice.

Shutki Machher

Ingredients:
  • 100 gms dried loittya fish (Bombay duck) cut into small pieces and soak it in hot water.
  • 100 gms onion (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tsp mustard oil
  • 1 cup of water
Preparation:
  1. Wash the dry fish properly and keep aside.
  2. Heat the oil in pan, fry the fish pieces lightly and keep aside.
  3. Heat the oil in the pan, add onions and fry until brown.
  4. Add garlic paste, turmeric, chilli powder, salt and mix well.
  5. Add pre fried fish and water and cook it for 10 min in medium flame.
  6. When the gravy becoms thick, Remove it from heat.
  7. Serve this with plain rice.
