Dal Bati

Ingredients:
For dal:
  • 3/4 cup - Whole black gram(urad) soaked in water over night with a pinch of soda bicrab)
  • 2 cups - Rajma beans ( soaked in water as same as black gram)
  • Onions(finely chopped) - 1 cup
  • Tomatoes(finely chopped) - 3/4 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder - 2 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Green chillies(chopped lengthy) - 3
  • Coriander leaves(finely chopped) - 1 cup
  • Fresh cream - 2 tbsp
  • Ghee/Mawa -4 tbsp
  • Oil
  • Salt to taste
For Dumpling:
  • Whole wheat flour, sieved - 5 cups
  • Ghee melted - 1 cup
  • Curd - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
Preparation:
  1. Pressure cook Rajma and Black gram till it become soft.
  2. Heat 4 tbsp oil in a pan.Add onions and fry till brown. Add Ginger garlic paste and tomatoes and fry for 3 min.
  3. Add chilli powder,Garam masala powder, Turmeric powder.Add rajma, black gram and salt, and cook till gravy become thick.
  4. Pour Cream and ghee. Now dal is ready.
  5. Knead a soft dough with flour, ghee, curd, salt and enough water.The dough should not be soft, Bati needs little bit harder dough then chapathi dough.
  6. Once the dough is ready. roll the dough in lemon size.
  7. Pre heat oven at 400f. Now place the bati in a cooking tray or u can keep them directly on the oven for 20-30 min.
  8. Keep changing sides so that it will bake it from all sides evently.
  9. Once the bati's are ingolden brown bring them out.
  10. Garnish the daal with coriander leaves and slit green chillies.Dip hot(bati's)dumpings in the dal while eating.
  11. Add lemon juice to dal(optional).
