Pongal

Pongal Ingredients:
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/4 cup moong dal
  • 6 cups water
  • salt to taste
Seasonings Ingredients:
  1. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  2. 1 tsp cumun seeds
  3. 1" ginger ( minced )
  4. 1 tsp peppercorns
  5. 10 cashew nuts
  6. A pinch of asafoetida
  7. Few curry leaves
  8. 1/2 tbsp ghee or oil.
Preparation:
  1. Wash the rice and dal together.
  2. Add water, salt and pressure cook for 10 mins. Allow it cool for sometime.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan.
  4. Add mustard seeds. when they start to crackle add the remaining seasonings ingredients.
  5. Saut's for few mins and pour this over the rice and dal mixture. Combine well.
  6. Serve hot with Coconut chutney or sambar.
